An institution built around a single Act

The Forum is a Section 8 non-profit company, registered under the Companies Act, 2013, CIN U85499MH2026NPL470552. It is not a regulator, and its authority extends no further than the quality of its work.

Why the Forum exists

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is short by the standard of data protection statutes. Much of what organisations must actually do is left to rules, to interpretation, and to professional judgment that does not yet exist at scale in India.

The Forum develops standards and frameworks for that gap, publishes interpretation guidance, enables professional participation, offers competency-based certification frameworks, and publishes observatory research. All of it in public, all of it free to read.

It does none of this for any government body, and none of it for any vendor.
